The Winners Over Pace headlined the Wednesday (July 17) evening card at Inverness Raceway and Sunshine Lou wasted little time getting to the top, maintained his lead throughout the mile, and won comfortably in 1:58.3.
Sunshine Lou (Donald Gillis) left from the center of the field in the featured $2,000 class and gained control of the timer early. He maintained at least a 1-1/2 length lead as he clicked out the fractions in :29.4, :59.3, and 1:29.2. Sunshine Lou opened up his lead to 3-1/2 lengths going into the final turn and he was able to ease home to a 2-3/4 length score in 1:58.3. Even-odds favourite Eastcoast Invader (Monica Sutherland) saw his three-race win streak snap and had to settle for second while Windemere Best Man (Redmond Doucet) retained the show spot.
Raymond and Leah MacKinnon co-own the eight-year-old Sunshine Beach - Carte De Mode gelding. In eight starts this year, he has posted a record of 3-1-1. Trained by Raymond MacKinnon, Sunshine Lou recorded his 22nd career victory to go along with $65,983 in earnings. Off at 3-1 odds as the third choice in the field of five, the gelding returned $8.50 to win.
