On Sunday, July 16, the Holland Fair in Manitoba hosted a pair of divisions of the Lady Crocus Stakes for three-year-old pacing fillies, and it was Reys N A Rocket and Mystery Shopper that made trips to the winner’s circle after their respective splits.
The first division, which was carded as Race 1 on the program, was won by the Richard Rey-trained and Michel Rey-driven Reys N A Rocket. The daughter of Mattarocket was sent off as the odds-on choice from Post 3. The bay snared the winner’s share of the $6,580 purse by heading straight to the lead and cutting the fractions in :31.1, 1:03.1 and 1:33.1. The lass came home with a :30.2 final panel and posted an eight-length victory in 2:03.3. The homebred of Richard and Janet Rey (of St Claude, MB) topped the exactor with the Roland Rey-driven Shes A Picture, who rebounded after having suffered interference behind the starting gate. Brain Teaser, who also suffered interference behind the gate, finished well back in third for driver Garett Isman.
The second division, which went postward as Race 2, was won by the Trevor Williams-trained and Don Howlett-driven Mystery Shopper, who captured the lion’s share of the $6,680 purse after closing from off the pace for a 2:06.3 win. Owned by Trevor and Michael Williams of Winnipeg, MB, Mystery Shopper, a daughter of Mystery Chase, started from the outer Post 5 and raced third through the fractions, which were cut in :32.3, 1:04.1 and 1:34.3. After having raced first-up in the third quarter, Mystery Shopper closed with a :31.3 final quarter and went on to post a one-length victory. Ma Horse, who cut the fractions for driver Roland Rey, held on for second, while Dragonart, who took a pocket ride for pilot Dean Rey, finished third by two lengths.
Trainer Trevor Williams trained four winners on the card (Mystery Shopper, Apple Blossom Time, Lissie Borden, Latestngreatest).
Holland is scheduled to host live racing again this coming Sunday (July 23)at 1:30 p.m.
