With her two competitors both making breaks in Wednesday evening's Nova Scotia Stakes at Inverness Raceway, West River Xcel easily ran away with the victory
West River Xcel followed Dunmore Fling from the pocket while first-time starter Take Me Home Ridge made an early break in stride taking himself out of contention. But the pacesetting filly also jumped it off heading into the stretch while West River Xcel trotted home in :28.3 to win by 15 lengths in 2:07.
Trainer/driver Clare MacDonald owns and bred the Northern Bailey-Dunmore Skye filly, who paid $3.10 to win as the 1-2 favourite.
West River Xcel also won the Nova Scotia Stake as a freshman in a two-horse race over Dunmore Fling.
Tonight's victory was her first of the season in three starts and fifth in 15 races lifetime. The lion's share of the $3,610 purse bumped her bankroll to $19,144.
