Jans Rich Girl held off a quick-closing With Bells On to stop that mare's win streak at four in the featured $8,800 Fillies & Mares Open Pace on Sunday afternoon at

Alberta Downs.

Trainer-driver Scott Knight sent Jans Rich Girl to command from the outside Post 6 during a :27.1 opening quarter.

As they headed down the backstretch, Weareverigo (Bill Tainsh Jr.) advanced from third and applied pressure past the half in :56.1, but Jans Rich Girl shook off that challenger as they headed past three-quarters in 1:24.4.

The leading lady came under attack again in the stretch by favourite With Bells On and Kelly Hoerdt, who rallied wide from the backfield, but Jans Rich Girl reached the wire just in time to score by a neck in 1:53.2, equalling her lifetime mark. Doober Hoozzitz and Brent Grundy finished two lengths back in third.

Jans Rich Girl paid $9.10 to win as the 7-2 second choice. Knight leases the six-year-old Camluck-Rich Jan mare, who has won six times in 19 starts this year while banking over $44,000. The win was her 23rd lifetime and lifted her earnings over the $175,000 mark.
