Adios Week 2011 at The Meadows Racetrack & Casino, a celebration of Grand Circuit harness racing and exciting entertainment that culminates with the 45th edition of the Delvin Miller Adios, kicks off Saturday, July 23, with $50,000 eliminations for the Adios
.
The $500,000 (est.) final of the “Pace for the Orchids” will go Saturday, July 30, anchoring a card that will offer more than $1 million in purses.
Between those Adios events, fans will enjoy five straight days of Grand Circuit racing, bringing the top young horses in the sport to The Meadows, as well as a diverse entertainment line-up that blends traditional Adios Week events and compelling new features.
“We are anticipating the most successful and enjoyable Adios Week ever,” said Meadows Racing President Mike Jeannot. “As always, our racing will be top flight, and we have broadened our entertainment options to reach out to new audiences, including those who may be experiencing their first Adios Week.”
One of the most popular Adios events, the Miss Adios Contest, takes place Thursday, July 28, pitting the winners of a number of qualifying events. This year, The Meadows is introducing a new contest, the First Annual Adios Hat Competition, which will occur during the Adios final card. (Hint to all contestants: Think orchids! Think purple!)
On Friday, July 29, the Hanover Adios Yearling Sale returns to Adios Week when Hanover auctions 31 yearlings in a large tent near the track’s statue of Adios — and, in an industry first, accepts online bids. The resumption of the Adios Week sale is a tribute to the strength of harness racing in the Keystone State and the attractiveness of Pennsylvania-bred yearlings.
The Meadows’ Facebook friends will have a unique opportunity to participate in Adios Week by posting their Adios picks on the track’s Facebook racing page. Those who pick the winner are eligible for a prize drawing.
