The Buckeye Stallion Series for two-year-old trotting fillies made a stop at MGM Northfield Park on Wednesday night (July 15), as a pair of $17,500 divisions were contested.
WF Fire, by Dejarmbro and out of Capri Hall, recorded a maiden victory in 1:59.4 with Chris Lems for Herman Hagerman. Lems took the filly to the lead with an opening panel of 29 seconds and never looked back (the duo won by five and a quarter lengths). WF Fire was the second choice in the wagering and returned $10.60 to win. Parabellum and Hunter Myers finished second and Sewin Sue for Dan Rawlings finished third. The winner, who is 3-1-1-0 on the year, is owned by Hagerman and Terrence Smith of Texas.
The second division went to the favourite, Charming Nancy, with Aaron Merriman for Chris Beaver in 2:00.4 and paid $2.60. Sired by Uncle Peter and out of Caviar Forthe Lady, the filly got away second and took the lead by the half before scoring by one and one-half lengths over Kaelli Mae with Chris Lems and Docs Dilemma for Dan Rawlings. The undefeated Charming Nancy is owned by Beaver, Joe Sbrocco, Mary McLoughlin, and Michael Carter.
The third leg for the two-year-old trotting fillies is scheduled for Tuesday, August 11 at the Champaign County Fairgrounds in Urbana, Ohio.
