On its Saturday, July 13 program Kawartha Downs commemorated several horsemen for their contributions to the racetrack as part of an evening celebrating 47 years of racing at the Fraserville oval.
Kawartha Downs honoured four horsemen who competed on opening night July 22, 1972. Reg Gassien, Carman Hie, Murray Samons and Doug Hie, all of whom still compete at Kawartha Downs, were recognized by harness racing supervisor Jim Huck, general manager Orazio Valente, Ray Lowery (one of the original directors at Kawartha Downs) and Ontario Harness Horseman Association representative Jim Whelan.
