Track, Horsemen Support Date Reduction

It has been reported that a House committee in Massachusetts is supporting a bill that would see race dates at Plainridge Racecourse reduced.

An article by The Sun Chronicle explains that the piece of legislation looks to reduce dates from 100 to 80.

The report states that both Penn National Gaming and local horsepeople support the reduction to help construction at the track.

The article has quoted Eric Schippers, Penn National Gaming’s senior VP of public affairs and government relations, as saying, "This reduction in dates has been done the past several years, and is in response to the overall available horse population and the amount of purse money available prior to the commencement of slot machine gaming.”
