With the single $50,000 elimination for the Roses Are Red Stakes taking place tomorrow night at Mohawk Racetrack, regular WEG circuit trainer Ben Baillargeon is confident about Voelz Hanover’s chances of making the final
.
“We only have to beat three horses to make the final. We have Post 10 so we won’t be looking to gun her and try and win the race. Dreamfair Eternal has been exceptional as of late and we seem to have a problem beating her. Hopefully that changes soon,” Baillargeon told WEG’s media department.
Voelz Hanover, an Ontario Sires Stakes graduate with over $800,000 in career earnings went unraced last year due to being bred. The daughter of Astreos-Vassar Hanover did not catch in foal and then soon ended up once again in Baillargeon’s care.
“She broke a bone in her pastern in her Breeders Crown final as a three-year-old so we decided to breed her. We gave her time off for the injury to heal and we decided to breed her. Once we found out she did not catch in foal and the injury was completely healed, we decided to return her to the races,” Baillargeon stated.
Baillargeon also told WEG’s media department that after the Roses Are Red Stakes, Voelz Hanover will get some much deserved time off.
Voelz Hanover has put together a record of 3-6-5 in 21 starts this year earning $144,820 for owner Richard Berthiaume of Pointe-Aux-Trembles, QC.
Mario Baillargeon will drive the five-year-old mare in Saturday's eighth race (9:57 p.m. post time).
