Roan Star converted from a two-hole trip to win the featured $11,000 Not Listed Preferred Trot on Wednes
day night at Sudbury Downs.
With Wayne MacLean in the driver’s seat for trainer France MacLean, Roan Star filled the pocket spot from the rail as his stablemate, Donald Rankin (Paul MacLean), left for the front from Post 3 and maintained a three-length lead on the field through splits of :29.3, :59.1 and 1:29. Heading into the stretch, Roan Star kicked into action and pulled off the victory by a quarter-length in a season’s best 1:59.2. Zorgwijk Fortunate (Mike Noble) was third.
The nine-year-old King Conch gelding out of Chicory Mariah, who is owned by Glenview Livestock Ltd. of Wallenstein, Ont., triumphed for the 16th time in his career lifting his bankroll to $161,091. Since joining MacLean’s barn at the end of April, Roan Star has won four times in 11 starts and has yet to finish out of the money.
The win was one of four on the card for France MacLean, who also scored with Sjs Nitelife (1:57.2), Super Link (2:02.3) and Magnum Star (1:56.4) - all driven by Paul MacLean. The resident of Chelmsford, Ont. has recorded 28 wins this year and 286 in his career with $1.5 million earned.
