P.E.I. Colt Stakes Trotting Showcase Tuesday

The trotters will take centre stage during the Tuesday, July 15 program at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway with P.E.I. Colt Stakes action as part of Governor’s Plate Week racing.

The 11-dash Tuesday card has a 6 p.m. (ADT) opening post time.

The first P.E.I. Colt Stakes trot division is in race two, carrying a $19,310 purse, for three-year-old fillies. Supreme Rockette, to be driven by Gilles Barrieau, leads the five-horse field with the inside post and Gilles Barrieau driving for trainer Mike McGuigan and owner/breeder Jamie Whalen of Vernon Bridge, P.E.I. The filly by E L Rocket out of Supreme Monarch has been rock-solid her entire career with 14 top three finishes from 15 lifetime starts.

Stablemate Oceanview Nikki, last year's Maritime Breeders Championship winner, has post two as the pair renew their rivalry in the field of five. McGuigan will drive this E L Rocket filly out of King Kong Kate for Prince Edward Island owners Blue Diamond Racing of Emyvale, Josh MacDonald of Little Pond and Gordon Coles of Charlottetown.

Also in the field are Majian Mystery (Jim Ripley), Dusty Lane Kahlua (Ryan Desroche) and Dibsonthecaptain (Corey MacPherson).

The two-year-old trotting fillies continue their young careers in their P.E.I. Colt Stakes division in race four, going for a $18,980 purse, and Hallysgurl is the early favourite from post three with Barrieau driving for the Darryl MacLean barn. The homebred Muscle Mass-Incredible Hally filly is co-owned by Calvin Larkin of Mermaid, P.E.I., and Charlottetown's Erika Bradley. She will make her first lifetime start after a 2:04.2 qualifying win at Charlottetown Driving Park.

The field also contains Dusty Lane Margo (Jason Hughes), Shes Got Spunk (Brian MacPhee), Roseys EL Girl (Ken Murphy), Miss Gracie Ridge (Ambyr Campbell), Bonmati (Marc Campbell) and Emberlees Rocket (Corey MacPherson).

West River Karuna headlines the P.E.I Colt Stakes rookie trotting colt division from post five in race seven, with $18,980 on the line. Clare MacDonald trains the son of Legion Of Honor out of Pannacotta Hanover while Ken MacDonald will drive for owner Haley MacDonald of Stratford, P.E.I. The homebred was a winner in 2:03.1 in his career debut in a division of the Atlantic Sires Stakes.

Other contenders are Mr Old Home Week (Ryan Desroche), Little Louis (Corey MacPherson), Big Rig (Mike McGuigan), Howmac Prime Time (Marc Campbell), Hoponarocket (Gilles Barrieau) and Nikway Rocks It (Myles Heffernan Sr.).

The final P.E.I. Colt Stakes trot division heads postward in race nine, with $19,310 up for grabs, for three-year-old trotting colts. Bless Me Father looks to remain unbeaten this season from post one for owner/trainer Donna Van Meer of Mount Herbert, P.E.I. Barrieau picks up the catch-drive on the son of Father Patrick and My Angel Heart as the trotter aims for his fourth straight win in as many tries in 2025. 

The field includes In Harmony (Myles Heffernan Sr.), Apollo Thirty Four (Marc Campbell), West River Jet (Ken MacDonald), My Pocket Rocket (Ken Murphy), Fire The Rocket (Jason Hughes), Marcus Down Ridge (Clare MacDonald) and Dusty Lane Gus (Ryan Desroche).
