Tobins Profit continued his early career trend of nothing but open air and winner’s circles in the Atlantic Sires Stakes for two-year-old pacing colts Thursday evening (July 14) at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway during Governor’s Plate Week racing.
Jason Hughes picked up the catch drive on the son of Stonebridge Terror for trainer Danny Romo and owners Kevin Dorey, Frank Brundle and Robert Sumarah as he led every call of his $16,440 A-division for pacing colts to win in 2:01.1. It was the second win in as many lifetime starts for Tobins Profit. Meraki was second ahead of Junes Boy.
Malignity stepped away with the other $16,440 A-split winning in 2:00.4 by a two-and-three-quarter length margin over Baconabiscuit and Roman Raven. Langille trains and drives the winning son of Malicious for owners Debbie Francis and Rosanne Langille of Nova Scotia.
Barrieau was far from camera shy on the evening with the O’Brien Award winning reinsman steering five horses to victory. He started off the action winning the Race 1 opener with Lachlanonthe Beach (1:57.4) from his own barn, then won Race 3 with Labero (2:00.1) in a trot class for trainer Randy Van Meer. Race 5 was more of the same with the Barrieau trained and driven Warrawee Yoko winning in 2:00.1 followed by a Race 6 win with What The Hill filly Victory Now (2:03.1) from the Jeff Holmes barn. His final score came in Race 9 of the evening as Likely To Win reached up at the finish for the veteran pacer’s 58th win.
Live racing continues Friday evening (July 15) at Red Shores Summerside featuring the Atlantic Sires Stakes for three-year-old pacing fillies with a 6:30 p.m. (EDT) opening post time.
