A change of scenery and aggressive approach helped Cosette break out of a slump and come away victorious in Saturday’s $10,500 Preferred 2 Handicap for filly and mare pacers at Georgian Downs.

With Travis Henry at the controls, Cosette was asked to march to the lead from Post 2. She quickly shot to the top and proceeded to carve out splits of :28, :56.2 and 1:25 before using a :28.2 kicker to win by three-quarters of a length over Filly Forty Seven in 1:53.2. Race favourite Cenalta Call Girl was a lapped-on third in the five-mare affair.

Carmen Auciello trains the four-year-old daughter of Mach Three-Ten Pound Puff for owner Robert Burgess of Cedar Valley, Ont. The homebred won for just the second time this season from 23 attempts. She’s hit the ticket in 10 of those 23 attempts. A five-time winner to date, Cosette lifted her lifetime earnings to $86,652 with the win.
