Red Carpet Treatment For Rookies

Two-year-old pacers were the stars of the show during Thursday’s 11-race program at Summerside Raceway.

No fewer than six divisions – three ‘A’ level divisions and three ‘B’ level divisions – went behind the starting gate during stakes-filled program.

Oceanview Magnum struck first by wiring up the foes he faced in his $9,320 ‘A’ division for driver Marc Campbell and trainer Earl Watts. He parked past the opening quarter in :30 before eventually working his way to the top. He proceeded to cut out middle fractions of :59.4 and 1:31.1 He then kicked out a :30-second closing panel to hold on for the neck decision over Tobins Optimism in 2:01.1. Buddy Mach was third.

The rookie son of Western Paradise-Southwind Windy, who was making his first lifetime start for owners Harris Johnston, Roger Burns, Claude Poirier and John Howlatt.

Sock It Away upset heavily-favoured Tangled Mind in the second $9,320 ‘A’ division. Marc Campbell got away third and enjoyed a ground-saving trip to the half in :57.3. Sock It Away made a sharp move to the top in the third quarter, and after buzzing by that post in 1:27.1 he kicked home in :28.4 to win by a length over Tangle Mind in 1:56. Rockin Party took home the show dough.

Kevin MacLean trains the son of Pang Shui-Someone Like You, who was sent off at odds of 4-1, for Reg MacPherson of Stratford, PE.

Dustylanewesty recovered from an early miscue en route to capturing the final ‘A’ division in 2:00.2. The son of Westwardho Hanover-Brianna Attitude had a wild trip considering he made the early break, found himself three-wide past the mid-way point. He went toe-to-toe with Mister Dulce before putting away rival. The margin of victory for Dustylanewesty was a length over Mister Dulce in 2:00.2. Weekend Atnannies was third.

Ian Tate and Riley Farms Ltd share ownership on the youngster who pulled off the upset to the tune of 10-1 for trainer/driver Clare MacDonald.

In the trio of $2,500 ‘B’ divisions the winners were The Colonel (2:02.3), Gringo Star (2:03.3) and Dustylanewesty (2:00.2).
