Avoiding first-turn confusion, Rockemsockem Scott sat the pocket to 8-5 favourite Betterthanbutter and blew by in the stretch to win as the longest shot on the board in the $1,700 Winners Over Pace at Inverness Raceway on Wednesday night (July 13).
J Gs Fireball jumped stride into the first turn, backing into most of the field except Rockemsockem Scott who raced wide and advanced into the pocket heading to a :30.2 first quarter. The rest of the field recalibrated moving to the second turn, with J Gs Fireball pressing first over into a 1:01.2 half before faltering into the backside. Betterthanbutter meanwhile cruised on the point to three-quarters in 1:30.1 but started to shorten in stride around the final turn as Rockemsockem Scott took aim. Spinning for home, the five-year-old Rockin Amadeus gelding slid past to post a 1-1/4-length win in 1:59.1 over Betterthanbutter. This Old Millie gave chase in third and Dam Lucky finished fourth another 10 lengths behind.
Don Kennedy trains Rockemsockem Scott for owner Gerard Kennedy, who also sat in the sulky. The gelding won his second race from five starts this season and his 12th from 59 overall and has now earned $32,756. He paid $22.70 to win.
