Shootout In The Alliance Final

Tuesday's $14,700 Alliance Series Final for horses and geldings at Georgian Downs appeared to be an event with two evenly-matched horses, and that's just how they finished.

Bob McClure took advantage of rail position with second choice Shootin To Kill and fired that one right out for early command. The duo carved out fractions of :27.4, :57.4 and 1:26.3 before feeling the pressure of slight favourite Singhampton Kenny (J Harris) around the final turn. Shootin To Kill had enough in reserve to repel the challenge and post the three-quarter length 1:55.2 score for a new lifetime mark.

Trained by Jamie Copley for Toronto's Tony Basile, three-year-old Shootin To Kill (Sportswriter - FD Together Again) is now a three-time winner on the season.

Georgian's Tuesday night card also featured two Preferred trotting events. Doubledown Gass was a pocket-popping winner in 1:55.4 for owner-trainer-driver Reg Gassien of Lindsay, Ont. in the $11,000 Preferred 2, while R Choochoo Charlie held on by a neck to take the $7,500 Preferred 3 in 1:58 for driver Travis Henry, trainer Carmen Auciello and owner Percy Elkins.
