This past Saturday afternoon, Weekend Bernie paced his way into Evergreen Park’s record book thanks to a scintillating clocking of 1:53.4

for driver Mike Hennessey.

And in case you missed it, here’s the video evidence of his record-setting performance:

Weekend Bernie, who hangs his harness bag in the barn of trainer Rod Hennessey, sliced four fifths of a second off the former record of 1:54.3 set in 2008 by Canaco Nolton. And that hardest thing to believe is the fact that he did so at odds of 7-1!

The seven-year-old son of As Promised-Shes A Gogetter, who is owned by Rod Hennessey of Millet and Lorne Duffield of Edmonton, Alberta, won for the second week-in-a-row and for the 30th time in his career. He has banked more than $546,000 to date, making him the richest male progeny of his Hall-of-Fame sire.

Congratulation Mike! What a day you had! First you get in an accident in the second race then you set not only a track record but fastest on a half mile as well! Good job of rising to the occassion. Great job calling as well Sugar, as usual. I hope that HRA & Northlands are keeping track of all of the broken records this year when we've been forced to race on less than desirable tracks, worse conditions, for little money, and no forseeable future! Alberta Standardbreds and their horsemen, owners and everyone else supporting harness racing-JOB WELL DONE! Alberta Standardbreds....the little breed that could!!!
