Just as she did a week ago in the second leg of the Town Pro Pacing Series, My Red High Heels went to the front and stole her way to victory in Monday’s $55,700 final for
three-year-old filly pacers at Mohawk Racetrack.
Randy Waples picked up the catch-driving assignment and sent the daughter of Modern Art-My Basha straight to command from the outside post in the field of eight. She had the field lined up in single-file fashion through a speedy :26.4 first fraction.
A :29.1 breather in the second quarter was the key to victory for My Red High Heels who faced her first pressure in the third quarter from the first-over Champale Blue Chip. Although she was being challenged, My Red High Heels reached the third marker in only 1:25.1.
After the soft middle half, My Red High Heels had little difficulty keeping her rivals at bay with a strong :27 second final panel to stop the clock in 1:52.1. Personal Ad rallied to finish second with Jersey Dream nailing down the show spot.
“I raced against her last week and Ricky [Rick Zeron] got to the front and controlled things and got a cheap half,” said driver Randy Waples. “I figured she was going to come into the race pretty fresh because she never got raced hard last week. She’s good gate speed, and there wasn’t a lot of sense in going to the back so we took a shot and it worked out. She felt strong the whole time, right from the time I crossed over to the front. I was real happy with the way she was going.”
It was the third straight victory and a new lifetime mark for My Red High Heels who returned a hefty $35.80 for the win. It was the fifth overall win this season for the Dave Tyrell trainee who is owned by Cesar Kowalski of Stoney Creek, Ontario. The win improves her earnings to just over $88,000.
