A large portion of Monday’s 15-race program at Rideau Carleton Raceway was dedicated to the freshmen set, as the five-eighths mile oval hosted the opening leg of series dedicated to rookies

Here’s a recap of what transpired in the various $6,600 divisions:
The Frisky Fillies Pacing Series
Artistic M N M rallied to an impressive 5-3/4 length score in a time of 1:57.1 for owner/trainer/driver Jason Gilchrist of Iroquois, Ontario. The filly used a :29.1 final frame to handily defeat Twin B Miracle (John MacDonald) and Ramadawn (Ted McDonald).
It was a career-best clocking for the youngster, who is now 2-for-2 to start her career. She was a $7,000 purchase from last year’s Forest City Yearling Sale.
The Majestic Son Trotting Series
Stormont Sorel front-stepped to a 2:03 victory for the duo of driver Ted McDonald and trainer John MacMillan. The daughter of Stormont Bronze-Samata, who was a 2:01.3 winner on July 2, defeated Davignon (Yves Filion) and Musclemad (Yves Gauthier) in the co-ed event.
Eric Baker of Long Sault, Ontario bred and owns the youngster, who has put together a 2-1-0 record in her first three assignments.
Divorce Court went to the front and didn’t look back in the second division for trainer/driver Jacques Beaudoin. The son of Striking Sahbra-Prenup laid down fractions of :31.1, 1:04.4 and 1:34.3 before stepping home in :31.4 to win by a nose over Rocket Dream (Normand Bardier, Jr.) in 2:05.4. Third prize was earned by Northern Pledge (Jason Gilchrist).
It was a winning debut for the colt, who is owned by Audrey Beaudoin of Manotick, Ontario. He was a $6,000 purchase at last year’s Canadian Open Yearling Sale.
The Boys Of Summer Pacing Series
Safe Harbor was a much-the-best winner in the first division for trainer/driver Marcel Barrieau. The son of Village Jolt-Light Up clicked off fractions of :28.4, :58.4 and 1:28.4 before kicking home in a :30-second clip to win by 2-1/2 lengths in 1:58.4. P H Forty (Kyle Forgie) came on strong to finish second, with Giv Super Bosco (Stephane Pouliot) rounded out the top three.
Barrieau shares ownership on the colt, who was a $25,000 purchase from last year’s Harrisburg Yearling Sale, with Quebec partners Gestion Mastel Inc and Conrad Leber.
Milliondollarcell overcame a first-over trip to take the other division in a career-best clocking of 1:59.1 for driver Michel Turenne and trainer Michel Blais. Majo Lincoln Phil (Mario Lachance) was second and third prize went to Swingopolitan (Stephane Gendron).
The homebred son of Million Dollar Cam-MG Scoot N Boot is owned by Blais and partners Pierre Blais and Marquis Lafleur. The rookie now owns a 2-0-1 record in his first three assignments.
