Distaffers Battle In Lobster Carnival Elims

A set of Lobster Carnival eliminations for filly and mare pacers highlighted the Monday evening program at Summerside Raceway, with Grayland Bliss and Grace And Harv winning their $2,500 assignments

Grayland Bliss enjoyed a pocket trip in the opening elimination and needed it to score in 1:58 for the tandem of driver Marc Campbell and owner/trainer Paul Gray of Pugwash, Nova Scotia.

Shooters Bay (Jason Hughes) laid down panels of :28.4, :58.4 and 1:28.1 before giving way to Grayland Bliss, who managed to hold off a fast-closing Abby Best by a half-length. Shooters Bay held on to be a lapped-on third.

It was the second win of the season for the five-year-old daughter of Blissfull Hall, who has banked more than $30,000 to date.

Grace And Harv wired up her rivals in the second elimination for trainer/driver Gilles Barrieau. The six-year-old daughter of Dexter Nukes threw down splits of :28.3, :59 and 1:28.2 en route to the 3-1/4 length score in 1:58. Red Star Ashlee was second best and Chris N Tel Arrow was third.

Wayne MacRae of Fall River, NS and Howmac Farms Ltd of North Wiltshire, PE share ownership on the mare, who extended her winning streak to three in a row while pushing her lifetime earnings to $103,159.
