Stables wishing to come out to Cal-Expo and race now have an added enticement as Cal-Expo and the California Harness Horsemen's Association have announced Fall Meet Incentive Programs which total $150,000

.

Cal-Expo, in concert with the CHHA, has agreed to offer purse incentive programs for horses competing at the track during the fall meet, which will begin August 13, 2010.

"We've spent a lot of time discussing these programs,” said Cal-Expo Director of Racing Dave Elliott. “We are hopeful that they are met with enthusiasm by the horsemen who have stayed in California, those who went to race elsewhere during the break, and for those 'first time starter trainers' who wish to give Cal-Expo a try in the fall.

"We are offering a maximum of $850 as a 'new horse' incentive purse to horsemen who wish to race at Cal Expo."

All horses wishing to participate in the programs must be approved, before shipping, by Cal-Expo Racing Secretary Fred Kuebler.

The SHIP will be deposited into the owner’s account after August 21, 2010 only after the owner’s horse has made its second pari-mutuel start at Cal-Expo by August 21, 2010, the second Saturday of racing of the Fall 2010 meet. If the horse does not make two starts on or by the aforementioned dates, the owner will not be eligible to receive the SHIP.

All owners of horses that have qualified for the SHIP will, in addition, be eligible to receive the SIPs. The maximum amount that any owner of an eligible horse may receive from the SHIP and SIP programs is $700.
