The two-year-old Atlantic Sires Stakes pacing season will kick off in fine form on Wednesday evening as part of Governor’s Plate Week racing at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
The Prince County oval will host 12 dashes on Wednesday evening featuring the Atlantic Sires Stakes for two-year-old pacing fillies in a trio of $11,620 A divisions.
In the first division (race three), Last Chance is the morning line favourite for trainer/driver Marc Campbell from post three. Jeff and Philip Valley share ownership of the Arthur Blue Chip-Philotes Nourir filly. Her main foes are pegged as Downtown Tonight (Brodie MacPhee) and Oh Artleigh (Darren Crowe).
Race nine has a field of six A fillies and Goodmorning Nova gets top billing from post three for driver Corey MacPherson and owners Jason Williams and Melissa Banks. Duane MacEachern handles the training chores of the Arthur Blue Chip-Goodmorning Ky filly. Galway Girl (Campbell) is the second choice ahead of Shesjusmsundrstood (Jason Hughes).
The final A division is in race 11 with Shesmytreasure getting the experience angle from post four after already pacing a mile in 2:00.1 in pari-mutuel action. Gilles Barrieau trains and drives the Malicious-Red Star Ashlee filly for owner Nikway Farms of Newfoundland and Labrador. Fern Hill Indigo (MacPhee) has rail control while Starship Mika (David Dowling) is picked for third from post seven.
A pair of $4,000 Atlantic Sires Stakes B divisions for two-year-old pacing fillies will line up in races five and seven.
The inaugural leg of the P.E.I. Colt Stakes Graduate Series will be contested on Wednesday evening. The series is for four and five-year-old Atlantic-sired or foaled pacers who are non-winners of $50,000 prior to the start of the new year.
There are a pair of $4,200 mare divisions presented by the P.E.I. Standardbred Breeder’s Association in partnership with JD Marine & Diving Inc., with Maggiesdelight (Corey MacPherson) favoured in race four and Psili Ammos (Kenny Arsenault) the top choice in race eight.
The $4,200 horse and gelding divisions are presented by the P.E.I. Standardbred Breeder’s Association in partnership with Kays Wholesale. Middleton Terror (Dowling) is the favourite in race six while Mr Rielly (MacPherson) gets top billing in race 10.
