History was set at the St. John’s Racing and Entertainment Centre Sunday afternoon, as a new track record for trotters was established by ABs Yankees Rail.
ABs Yankees Rail was driven to victory by veteran Gary McDonald in a time of 2:05.3, eclipsing the previous record by one and one-fifth seconds.
McDonald was home from Ottawa where he is a regular driver at Rideau Carleton Raceway. In the afternoon’s feature, the 'Jim McDonald Memorial Pace,' his grandson Matthew McDonald, Gary’s son, recorded his first lifetime victory aboard P H Tornado.
U S Charmeleon, in rein to visiting driver Anne Marie Turenne, record the fastest time of the day, as the gelding stopped the clock in 2:05.2.
Other winners included Full Of Motion (driven by Ken Hynes) Royal Strike Out (Thomas Dalborg), Trailer Park Lucy (Bob Forward, Jr.), Even Winds Obey (Shane Forward) and Dusty Lane Zoe (Frankie Joyce).
