Her name is Jersey Dream, but she started her racing career California dreamin’, on the one-mile oval at Sacramento’s Cal Expo, winning her first and only start
as a two-year-old in 1:59.1.
After a couple more starts on the West Coast – where she finished third and second – Jersey Dream made the long journey eastward to The Meadowlands to begin her sophomore career in earnest under the tutelage of Bruce Saunders. The daughter of Artiscape comported herself well at the Big M, coming in second in the $200,000 New Jersey Sires Stakes final at the end of May, and taking home cheques in each of her other six starts there for Saunders.
The 12-hour drive up to Mohawk from New Jersey must have seemed comparatively easy for the globe-trotting pacing filly, who arrived here and claimed a stall in the shedrow of conditioner Rene Laarman just prior to the start of the Town Pro series. And it’s been worth the trip. Jersey Dream triumphed by a head over My Red High Heels in her division of the series opener on June 29, and led the field through much of the mile in last week’s sequel, before being caught at the wire to finish third.
“She’s a wonderful filly,” says Laarman. “Bruce has done a great job with her. She was a little sick last week, which I think is why she tired there at the end. We treated her this week and I’m hoping she should be 100% for the final.
“She’s got the two hole, and there really are no standout fillies in there, so she should be a player for sure.”
Jersey Dream will be heading back to her namesake state immediately after the Town Pro, so Monday night is your best chance to watch this promising lass in action. The $55,700 final of the Town Pro Pacing Series goes postward on Monday at Mohawk. Monday night’s card also features two Ontario Sires
Stakes Gold eliminations for freshman pacing fillies.
