The 2017 season kicked off for the Manitoba Great Western Harness Racing Circuit on Sunday (July 9) with Mystery Shopper winning the first race.
Mystery Shopper won the $1,350 maiden event for Manitoba's defending Trainer of the Year, Trevor Williams and his father/co-owner Michael. Tyler Grundy drove the three-year-old Mystery Chase filly, who scored a front-stepping victory in 2:04.3.
Mystery Shopper began her career at Alberta's Century Downs this past spring before being acquired by her current Winnipeg connections. Unraced as a two-year-old, she earned her first career win in her seventh lifetime start.
The $2,400 Open Pace was won by Max McInnes' eight-year-old Camcracker gelding Procrastinatinpeat, who fended off Full Moon Dodger and False Advertising for the 2:04.1 victory. Driver Glenn LeDrew and trainer Shawn Worthen teamed up for their third win on the card in the 10th race featured finale.
Williams also ended with a training triple on the program.
Racing will move to Holland for the next two Sundays, with a 1:30 p.m. post time each day.
