Gulfstream Park announcer Pete Aiello will be spending part of his July 4 weekend in a sulky at Horseshoe Indianapolis when he takes on The Red Mile’s VP of Racing and Sports Wagering Operations Gabe Prewitt in a harness match race for charity.
The two got together in April of 2022 at now defunct Pompano Park for a match race that raised money for Thoroughbred aftercare, ending with Aiello in the winner’s circle.
This time the two will take to the turf Thursday, July 4 at Horseshoe Indianapolis with a pair of pacers to raise money for homeless veterans.
Helping Veterans and Families (HVAF) helps homeless veterans return to self-sufficiency and engages at risk veterans and their families to prevent them from becoming homeless by providing supportive housing, case management, employment support, therapy, and basic needs. In 2023 HVAF served 1,349 veterans and provided over 37,000 life-changing services.
Prewitt, who has filled in several times at Gulfstream during the fall for Aiello said; “I have heard him for two years after winning by a head with a horse 20 lengths the best. This all comes to an end Thursday night.”
Said Aiello: “I look forward the defending my title and doing in Indiana exactly what I did in Pompano. Gabe will lose and I will win.”
Kenny Livengood will fill in for Aiello at Gulfstream.
