The Canam Banker Lowers Dresden Track Record

The Canam Banker cashed in on a 9-1/2 length explosive victory in one of two $20,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots divisions for three-year-old trotting colts and geldings, setting a new track record at Dresden Raceway on Monday, July 1.

Winning in 1:59, the Victor Puddy student lowered the previous track record for three-year-old male trotters set by Starsel in 1:59.3.

Tyler Borth and The Canam Banker battled Alexander (Todd Ratchford) through the quarter in :30.4. After that panel, The Canam Banker assumed command and opened up with every stride. By the 1:00.4 half, The Canam Banker was up by 1-3/4 lengths. At the three-quarters in 1:30, he had achieved a three length advantage. Without letting up, The Canam Banker opened up to a hefty 9-1/2 length achievement in track record time, 1:59. Alexander continued on to take second and Muscle Detector (Garrett Rooney) rounded out the triactor.

The three-year-old gelded son of The Bank - Fiery Ash is owned by Michael Marocco and Victor Puddy for his second win in 16 starts this year and his third career tally from 20 starts. He moved his lifetime sum to $66,333. The Canam Banker paid $2.50 as the bettors' choice.

Royal Duharas took the second split for the sophomore males with Loic Gueriel in tow for trainer Kyle Fellows. 

Royal Duharas cleared the early lead and never looked back, handling the timer with posts in :30.2, 1:03.3, and 1:33.4. Completing his reign with a final fraction in :28.1, Royal Duharas won by one length in 2:02. Wheelzablazin (Tyler Moore) finished second and Buttinski (Ratchford) grabbed third.

Haras De L Estrie bred and owns the sophomore Royalty For Life - Grace Duharas gelding for his third win in five goes this year and fourth career win from 14 starts, yielding $35,671 in lifetime purses. He paid $17.10 as the 8-1 upset victor.

Slayin Theday Away took the lone $8,000 Prospect Series division for sophomore trotting colts with a gate-to-wire trip by a half length in 2:05. Eddie Green provided the winning drive for Keelan Green.
