Q Ts Charlie has certainly started his seven-year-old season on the right foot, with only first and second-place finishes in his first four starts.
On Saturday (July 1) at Northside Downs, Q Ts Charlie picked up his second win of the season in the $1,800 Winners Over feature, known on this day the 125 Year Anniversary Pace.
Send off as the 2-1 choice in the field of six, Q Ts Charlie got away in fourth for Shawn Lynk as Kiss Me Im Irish (Mark Pezzarello) hit the quarter in :28.4 before backing it down to a :58.4 half. By that point, Elm Grove Qwiggly (Larry Snow) was advancing and attacking, bringing Q Ts Charlie closer to the leader with a second over tow.
Kiss Me Im Irish did her best to repel the outer flow rivals, hanging onto the lead just up to the 1:27 third station. Elm Grove Qwiggly had her number and landed on the lead heading into the final turn, but Q Ts Charlie was then the new first over threat. These two pacers traded blows into the lane, but Q Ts Charlie had the most pace late and hit the wire a helf-length the best with the mile timed in 1:57. A Better Man (Adam Lynk) rounded out the triactor.
Trained by Jeremy Baker, Q Ts Charlie (Proven Lover - Neverquits) picked up his 19th career win to lift his earnings to $22,733 for owner John Murphy of Port Hawkesbury, N.S. He paid $6 to win.
