Students from the Jimmy Takter School of Harness Racing swept Thursday’s $44,100 divisions of the E.H. Harriman Cup for two-year-old trotting colts and geldings
at the Meadowlands.
Zooming broke his maiden in 1:58.1 for Takter, who mapped out the winning trip for the son of Classic Photo-Merit Lane. The colt kicked home in :28.2 to win by a head over Muscleaneous (Ray Schnittker). The other half of that heavily-favoured entry, High Pan Tolerance (Tim Tetrick) was a lapped-on third.
Christina Takter of East Windsor, NJ and John Fielding of Toronto, ON share ownership on the youngster, who was purchased for a mere $15,000 at last year’s Lexington Select Yearling Sale. He’s the third foal out of a Lindy Lane sister to Self Possessed (1:51.3 - $1,346,390).
Takter turned over the lines to Ron Pierce in the second division, and Pierce delivered with Leader Of The Gang in a career-best clocking of 1:56.2. The son of Muscles Yankee-Fraulien Bluestone led through fractions of :28.4, :59 and 1:28 before turning on the jets and trotting home in :28.2 en route to defeating runner-up Magnum Kosmos (John Campbell) by 3-1/2 lengths. Consus Blue Chip (Corey Callahan) rounded out the top three.
Sent off as the 4-5 favourite, Leader Of The Gang won for the second time in as many tries for the partnership of Christina Taker, Brixton Medical Ab, Joyce McLelland and R A W Equine. The precocious performer was purchased for $170,000 at last year’s Harrisburg Yearling Sale.
