Summerside Raceway celebrated Canada Day with a 14-race matinee program, and it was a card that turned out to be very kind to driver Gary Chappell
.
Chappell, who took last year’s driving title at Summerside Raceway, made five trips to the winner’s circle over the course of the afternoon.
After recently surpassing the $2 million mark in career earnings, Chappell clicked with Lucky Northernstar (2:03.4), Ryans Emerson (2:02.2), Two For Three (2:01.2), P L Betterway (1:59.1) and Triage (2:02.1).
In other afternoon action, Pans O Silver wired up the competition en route to taking home top prize in the $2,000 pacing feature. The nine-year-old son of Pans To Reason sliced out splits of :28.2, :58.3 and 1:27.4 before jetting home in a :29-second clip to win by a one-length margin in 1:56.4. Life Savior was next best and Fleet Officer was third.
Driven by Brian MacPhee for owner/breeder/trainer Alex MacPhee of Cornwall, PEI, Pans O Silver won for the fourth time this season and for the 46th time in his career. He has banked more than $72,000 to date.
