A double shot of Preferred action highlighted Tuesday’s 12-race card at Grand River Raceway, and a pair of veteran campaigners managed to take home weekly bragging rights in their respective $12,800 assignments
.
In the Fillies & Mares Preferred it was Shami Cami, who front-stepped her way to a 1:56.4 decision for driver Mike Whelan and trainer Scott McNiven. The nine-year-old daughter of Run The Table – Twin B Cami laid down fractions of :28, :58.1 and 1:27.3 over a rain-soaked oval that was listed “good-2” before kicking home in :29.1 to stave off runner-up Victim Of Love and third-place finisher Sammy Syd.
Kim McNiven, Twin B Stables and Brad McNiven share ownership on the homebred, who is now a 36-time winner in her career. This year’s 4-for-18 record has helped her bank close to $40,000 this season and more than $496,000 to date.
In the Preferred Trot, driver Dave Boughton turned a ground-saving trip into a driving away victory with the Bernie Bahr-trained The Original, who rallied late to stop the clock in 2:00.2. The seven-year-old son of CR Renegade – Sennas Image won as he pleased over Long Ago and Sam Nelson.
Both Bernie and Carla Bahr share ownership on the nine-time winner who has stashed away more than $208,000 in career earnings.
