In just his second start for new connections, Ginger Tree Skyr ($29.00) found the winner's circle, taking the $17,000 trotting feature on Wednesday (June 9) at Harrington Raceway.
The five-year-old Explosive Matter gelding pushed gradually to the front up the backstretch, edging clear of pacesetter Quiksilvr Bluechip on the far turn and evading a late rally from Whimzical Chapter to win by 1-1/4 lengths in 1:54.3. Ginger Tree Skyr's win gave trainer Nick Callahan — who shares ownership with Yorwollahan Racing Team and Stuart Chambers Racing LLC — one of his two wins on the 14-race program, and driver Corey Callahan one of his four victories on the 15-race program.
Trainer Jason Johnson had three wins from his barn, including Brother James ($8.60, Russell Foster), Tour De Lindy ($8.00, Montrell Teague) and Expect The Sweep ($11.80, Foster). Drivers Foster and Ross Wolfenden each had a double.
Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund three-year-old stakes action will headline next week’s racing action on Monday through Wednesday as $20,000 first-leg divisions await the male pacers Monday (June 14), female pacers Tuesday (June 15), and both sexes of trotters on Wednesday (June 16).
Post time Monday through Wednesday is 4:30 p.m.
