The next wave of harness racing's Grand Circuit hopefuls hit the racetrack for 11 baby races at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday morning (June 9).

Three of those 11 races were carded for rookie trotters. The most impressive of those trotting freshman, however, was sent out by a horseman far from a newcomer but making his return to a harness racing program. Trainer Frank O'Reilly guided trotting filly Firedbylindie to a 2:00.3 win in her first on-track appearance. That gives O'Reilly his first charted line since 2014.

"I told everybody all winter she's as good as I've ever had," O'Reilly told Trot Insider after the qualifiers. "She's the real deal."

O'Reilly took a break from harness racing but worked for a number of outfits over the past few years. A less-than-successful arrangement prompted the name of his two-year-old filly.

"I actually worked for Dustin Jones in Florida over the winter, and the year before that I was in Florida working for Paul Reid. The year before that, I was training for Lindy Farms and they fired me. And that's how I named the filly."

A $12,000 yearling purchase (sold as Lindys Pizzazz) from the Harrisburg sale, Firedbylindie is sired by (appropriately) Explosive Matter out of the Conway Hall mare My Lady Lindy. She's owned by Frank's wife, Kim.

One race prior, the session's fastest pacer went under the wire as See You in Tuscany won wire-to-wire in an impressive 1:55.4 with a six-length margin of victory. A $10,000 Buckeye Yearling Sale purchase, See You In Tuscany (We Will See - McDance Desire) was driven to victory by trainer Anthony MacDonald for Thestable Tuscany Group of Guelph, Ont.

With Mohawk preparing for North America Cup night next Saturday, the next session of two-year-old qualifiers will be conducted over Thursday (June 14) and Friday (June 15), depending on the number of entries.
