Fightmaster and driver Gilles Barrieau captured the Thursday night feature in 1:59.2 over a rain soaked track at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
My Lucky Killean and Eagle Jolt took turns on the lead through fractions of :28.2, :58.2 and 1:28.1, but Fightmaster chugged away first-over and then used a :31-second closing panel to win by a length over Eagle Jolt. The Big Bite took home third prize in the $2,100 tilt.
Fightmaster is trained by Mike McGuigan for his co-owner Jack Quinn of Charlottetown, PE.
Three trotters made trips to the winner’s circle on the card including Freddie, who won the Open Trot for trainer/driver Marc Campbell. The newcomer notched his third win in a row for the ownership group known as Three Wiseman Stable.
Hopedale Dora (Joey Pineau) and Professor Gordon (Vince Poulton) also won their respective divisions.
Marc Campbell recorded a driving triple while Gary Chappell, Vince Poulton and Barrieau recorded driving doubles. Trainer Earl Watts had two winners from his stable.
