The amazing driving career of Leo Burns continued on Monday, June 7 at the Clark County Fair
in Marhall, Illinois.
At the age of 95, Burns piloted the six-year-old trotting mare Winsome Wyoming to a 2:06.2 victory in a Topline trot for 3-year-olds and older. Burns also owns and trains the daughter of Wilson Wyoming-Drama Queen.
Winsome Wyoming never saw the wood, being parked out third at the opening panel in :32, then sitting first on the rim through middle splits of 1:02.3 and 1:34. The duo opened up a five length lead at the top of the lane and then hung on for a 1-3/4 length triumph over Strong Kiss.
The victory allowed Burns to break his own record as the oldest driver in harness racing history to ever win a race.
