Crazly did it calmly.
Under a confident drive from J Harris, Crazly made every call a winning one to capture the 2024 Ken Houston Memorial Pace on Saturday, June 8 at Hanover Raceway.
Pointed to the top as the wings of the gate folded, Crazly paced through initial fractions of :28.2 and :59 in the $4,600 contest, and then repelled the stout challenge of favoured Acefortyfour Lady (Jason Ryan) down the backside before a 1:28.1 third station. With that rival no longer a factor, Crazly paced home in :29.2 for the career best 1:57.3 decision.
Dusty Lane Zoro (Paul MacKenzie) sat the pocket throughout and finished second, two lengths back with Acefortyfour Lady staying for third.
Rick Wade of Woodstock, Ont,. trains and co-owns Crazly, a five-year-old Bettors Delight - Crazy Luv Bug gelding, with Linda Grummett of Stratford, Ont.
The race was named in honour of Houston, who began his career in Holyrood, ont. in the 1960s. In 1981 the family moved to Pike Lake where they continued their love and passion for racing Standardbred horses all across Ontario for the next 30 years. His biggest success came with a pacer named Fish My Pal, named after his best friend and partner, Don Fisher. Ken passed away in January at the age of 78.
