Chris Scicluna's Hatikvah ($47.40) was an upset winner in the $20,000 Open Trot Wednesday (June 8) at Harrington Raceway.
The six-year-old Chapter Seven gelding and driver Ross Wolfenden challenged pacesetter Monarch first-over and began to clear near the three-quarters. Monarch retreated as Hatikvah gained the lead near the top of the stretch and held off a strong bid from Quiksilver Bluechip and Lizzy Lauxmont, who rounded out the trifecta, for his fourth win of the season. Trained by his owner, Hatikvah has banked $44,910 this season.
Mike Cole, Jason Thompson, Montrell Teague and Allan Davis each had a pair of wins on the card.
Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) stakes action for three-year-olds headlines next week's racing action, with pacing colts and geldings on Monday, pacing fillies on Tuesday, and both sexes of trotters on Wednesday. There will be two $20,000 elimination legs with $100,000 final events on July 28.
