It was a blowout score for Outlawgrabbingears and trainer/driver Paul Davies in Monday’s featured $11,500 Preferred 2 & 3 Handicap for horse and gelding pacers at Grand River Raceway.
The gelding got away in mid-pack in the early going while Adore Him took advantage of the rail post and hustled the field past the opening quarter in :28. Bet On Brett, who was parked through the first quarter, worked his way to the lead and had the field chasing him past the half in :57.
He was still the leader at the three-quarter pole in 1:26.3, but the backfield was closing in. Single White Sock attacked first over, and Outlawgrabbingears was setting up a three-wide bid from behind that foe. Outlawgrabbingears used a :28.2 closing quarter to motor to the top and then draw away to a four-length triumph over Adore Him in 1:55.2. Always N The Money was third.
Outlawgrabbingears is now a 17-time winner for owners Paul Davies, Nicole Davies and Deborah Pinel. It was the first win of the season for the four-year-old son of Smart Shark-Grand Slam Woman who surpassed $250,000 in career earnings in the process.
