After knocking at the door of the Preferred Trot's winner's circle for three years, Cool Guy finally got his picture taken on Monday night at Mohawk Racetrack, much to the delight of the longshot players.

Driver Doug McNair settled Cool Guy into sixth in the field of seven while Doubledown Gass (Reg Gassien) and Etruscan Hanover (Mario Baillargeon) took turns on the lead through swift early fractions of :26, :54 and 1:23. Heading into the final turn, Cool Guy was situated third over behind a pair of O'Brien Award winners: Daylon Magician (Jack Moiseyev) and Intimidate (Sylvain Filion).

As the field turned for home, McNair tipped Cool Guy into the four wide path and the trotter exploded with a vicious late kick to trip the timer in a lifetime best 1:51.4, a neck better than another O'Brien Award winner with late kick, Flanagan Memory (Chris Christoforou) with Daylon Magician another length-plus back in third.

Cool Guy was the second longest shot on the board, going off at odds of 45-1. He bested his previous lifetime mark (1:53.2) by nearly two full seconds for trainer Tim Cherwaiko, who co-owns with Trevor Cherwaiko. Cool Guy (Oaklea Julian - Dont Be Misled) won his second race of the year and 14th lifetime, pushing his earnings past $321,000.
