The tandem of trainer Corey Johnson and driver Jonathan Drury could do no wrong at Kawartha Downs on Thursday evening, and that was music to the ears of the fans playing favourites.
Johnson sent out three starters and Drury delivered with all three of them – two of which were sent off as post time choices.
Max Money got the ball rolling with his front-stepping score in Race 7. The son of Amigo Hall brushed to the top past the quarter pole and he cruised to an 8-3/4 length tally in 1:56.2 as the 1-2 favourite. Just two races later his stablemate, All That Jazz, wired up her foes in 1:57.4 in Race 9. Drury hustled her through panels of :28.1, :58.1 and 1:27.3 before cruising home in :30.1 to win by 2-1/2 lengths as the 7-2 third choice in the wagering.
Tymal Yoko completed the hat-trick for the duo thanks to her coast-to-coast decision in Race 11. The daughter of Striking Sahbra sailed through splits of :28.4, :58.1 and 1:27.1 before trotting home in a :31-second clip to win by half a length in 1:58.1 as the even-money choice. Drury also snagged a catch-driving win behind Siddall one race earlier to bring his nightly win total to four on what turned out to be a productive night at the office.
Johnson is in the midst of a career season for wins (57) and purse earnings ($793,095) and Drury is well on his way to putting up personal best numbers. He’s already racked up 81 wins this year and purse earnings in excess of $548,000. He enjoyed a career year in 2011 thanks to 135 wins and purse earnings which topped $875,000.
