Longshot Crackle N Burn delivered a victory in the $10,500 Open Handicap Pace on Tuesday (June 7) at Century Downs Racetrack And Casino.

Shark Week (Michael Hennessy) grabbed the lead with a first-quarter fraction of :28.2, before odds-on favourite Samba Beat (Philip Giesbrecht) passed him to take command through a :57.1 half and 1:25.1 three-quarters.

Crackle N Burn, who was listed at 10-1, started from Post 3 and trailed both Samba Beat and Shark Week in third spot on the backstretch. With a final panel of :28.3, he advanced first-up for driver Nathan Sobey and wore down the pacesetter to score a 1:54 victory by a head over hard-charging Outlaw Gunsablazin (Brandon Campbell). Shark Week settled for third place.

Crackle N Burn, a six-year-old Blue Burner gelding, posted his third win in 14 starts this season and the 19th victory of his career. Owned and trained by Rodney Starkewski of Lamont, Alta., he extended his career earnings to $240,162.

The win paid $22.70.
