Competing in Northside Downs' top pacing class, Hoosier King held on by a nose to earn his first Maritime victory on Saturday afternoon.

In the $1,100 feature race, the front-striding Hoosier King ($11) turned back a first over challenge from Grandtacular past the half-mile mark and held off Presidential Rage in the final strides for the 2:01.4 triumph, with Silver Dragon closing the quickest to take third-place honours less than a length behind. Race favourite Carol Alice finished nearly four lengths back in fourth.

The seven-year-old gelding, who now has 30 wins lifetime and earnings totalling $173,922, was acquired by his current Nova Scotia connections in April. Dana Getto trains the son of Kingsbridge while driver Randy Getto shares ownership with Bradley Getto, Susan Macsween and Wayne Hardy.

Hoosier King was making his fourth Nova Scotia start after having earned a pair of thirds and one fifth-place finish.
