Best Show In Town used a 'catch me if you can' approach to take home the top prize in Sunday evening’s

$12,100 Preferred at Rideau Carleton Raceway, and that was good news to the backers of the Gerard Demers pupil who was sent off at odds of 4-1.

Despite winning seven of his first 14 starts this season the seven-year-old son of Grinfromeartoear-Ms Bellagio was sent off as the second choice in the wagering. D M Coltfortyfive was hammered down to be the 1/5 choice, but he got the cold shoulder treatment from Best Show In Town.

The geldings battled past huge panels of :26.3, :54.4 and 1:23.4 before D M Coltfortyfive held up the white flag. Best Show In Town, however, dug down deep to fend off pocket-sitter Thats Ideal for the 1:53.4 victory. Thats Ideal was three-quarters of a length back in second, while third-place finisher Imjustalittleguy was beaten a length.

Guy Gagnon mapped out the winning trip for Best Show In Town, who is owned by 9174 7998 Quebec Inc. of Blainville, QC. The roan campaigner celebrated his 40th lifetime win while pushing his bankroll to $334,216.
