Dewey Arnold won the $11,806 Open Trot at Vernon Downs on Saturday (June 6) in gate-to-wire fashion.
With Leon Bailey in tow, Dewey Arnold charged out of the gate and went straight to the front, stopping the clock in :27.4 at the first quarter pole. With a :29.1 second quarter, Bailey and the David Dewhurst student reached the half in :57. After clicking the three quarters in 1:25, Dewey Arnold brushed off Special Mission (Dan Daley) to win in 1:54. Bella Cavalla (John MacDonald) rounded out the top three finishers.
An eight-year-old Deweycheatumnhowe gelding, Dewey Arnold ($3.24) is owned by Philip Hale and trainer David Dewhurst. The triumph was his fourth of the year and 46th career victory.
Drivers Truman Gale and Jimmy Whittemore each secured driving hat tricks and trainer Wayne Bouck recorded a double.
Vernon Downs returns to live racing on Friday (June 12) with the Empire Breeders Classic (EBC) for sophomore filly trotters as well as three-year-old colts & geldings trotters headlining the card. Post time is 12:15 p.m
