Race-Day Drug Situation A Quagmire?

“This has been a constant debate in racing for a long time, and I think it's going to continue to be unless someone comes in and mandates it

."

In an article by The Courier-Journal, Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association President Dan Metzger, who offered the above quote, explained his organization's position on the use of race-day medications --- more specifically the anti-bleeding drug, lasix.

In the report, Metzger referred to the fight regarding anti-bleeding medications, which many claim to mask the use of illegal performance-enhancing drugs, as the “mother of all battles.”

He went on to state that, “The way the camps have drawn the lines, I'm not overly optimistic that there's going to be a consensus on how to move forward.”
