With Bells On and trainer/driver Kelly Hoerdt showed no mercy to the competition in Sunday’s $8,800 Fillies & Mares Open at Alberta Downs thanks to their five-length tally in Sunday afternoon’s feature race
.
Hoerdt and With Bells On got away in the two-hole while Jans Rich Girl opened up a big lead. She sprinted to the quarter pole in :26.4 before backing down the speed in the second quarter. Jans Rich Girl was still in charge of the tempo at the mid-way point in :56.3, but she felt pressure from With Bells On in the third quarter. A little more than a length separated them at the third juncture in 1:26.3 before With Bells On dropped into another gear and took off by four lengths at the head of the stretch. She tacked on another length for good measure en route to the 1:55 triumph over entrymate W Jean. Western Bee grabbed third prize in the eight-horse affair.
The five-year-old daughter of Emery Flight-Tooting is owned by Hoerdt and partner Blair Corbeil of Beaumont, Alberta. Together they have watched the distaffer assemble a 5-6-3 record from 18 starts this year while banking just over $46,000 along the way. She has stashed away $127,394 to date.
