Meadowlands Hosts Mixed Sale

The 2016 Tattersalls Spring Mixed Sale was held on Sunday, June 5 at The Meadowlands.

Bringing the highest price in the sale was Summer Side, consigned by agent Preferred Equine for owner Ray Schnittker. Preferred also signed the $77,000 sale slip on the two-year-old Well Said-Beachy Lady colt, who was individually timed in 1:55 with a :27.3 final quarter, finishing second in his first baby race on Saturday, June 4 at The Meadowlands.

Capela was the second-highest priced horse of the sale, consigned and purchased by Northwood Bloodstock Agency for $67,000. The four-year-old Sportswriter - Capelo Rose mare completed a sweep of the Petticoat Pacing Series in her last pari-mutuel race, winning in 1:54.4 at Yonkers Raceway on March 28 for Legacy Racing Of De Inc. and Reginald A. Hazzard II. A past Ontario Sires Stakes Gold winner, she has 10 wins and $264,585 in career earnings, and a lifetime mark of 1:52.4 over Dover Downs.

Coughlin came in at number three, selling for $65,000. Consigned by Preferred Equine, the three-year-old son of Credit Winner out of Kelly Hall was purchased by Vito Cucci of Belmar, N.J. Coughlin took a new mark of 1:54.4 in his last start on May 29 in the New York Excelsior A Series at Tioga Downs. The win was his fourth from 12 starts and put his lifetime bankroll at $41,530. He was previously campaigned by Burke Racing Stable LLC, Weaver Bruscemi LLC, Lawrence Karr, and The Panhellenic Stb Corp.

A total of 190 horses went through the sales ring, bringing more than $1.6 million in bids and an average price of $8,532.
