Gillis Comments On Federal Flex

After putting on quite a display for the second consecutive week during Mohawk qualifiers, Federal Flex's trainer, Jeff Gillis, spoke with Trot Insider regarding

the impressive Muscles Yankee colt.

With co-owner Jody Jamieson at the helm, Federal Flex left the gate from Post 8 during the fourth race this morning. The three-year-old made every pole a winning one, expanding his lead the further he went.

Cutting the fractions in :28.2, :59 and 1:27.3, Federal Flex would go on to win by a whopping 19 lengths in 1:55. The colt posted the same winning margin last week, when he trotted in 1:58.

"He was quite good and pretty comfortable this morning," Gillis told Trot Insider. "He went about where we were looking for him to go. We were looking to stretch him out just a bit this morning."

Gillis explained that the career winner of $560,818 might qualify next week at Mohawk, but nothing is set in stone at this point.

"We might go again with him next week," he said, "but we also may back off him a little. For right now, we're happy with him. He's all systems 'go' right now."
