Rockemsockem Scott destroyed the competition in Inverness Raceway's top pace, closing out Sunday afternoon's harness racing program with an 11-length romp.
With the inside advantage in the $1,800 Winners Over Pace, Rockemsockem Scott out-sprinted the early leavers into a :30.1 opening quarter and was up by two lengths as he cruised to the half in 1:00.1 for driver and owner Gerard Kennedy. The six-year-old pacer continued to expand his lead to three-quarters in 1:30.1 and left his rivals behind to battle for the minor awards en route to a 1:59.2 knockout victory over the 'good' track.
Following a top three finish in his season's debut at Northside Downs season last season, Rockemsockem Scott was the 7-5 second choice and paid $4.80 to win.
Trained by Don Kennedy, the Rockin Amadeus-Remis Rocket gelding earned his 18th career win.
There was a four-way battle at the finish line for the runner-up honours, with Eastcoast Invader (Monica Sutherland) getting the nod after rallying three-wide off the final turn. Solid Silver (Rodney Gillis) scooted up the pylons and landed the show spot after the results of a judges' inquiry bumped back the 4-5 favourite Windemere Best Man (Andrew MacLean), winner of the season opener's Winners Over class last Sunday at Inverness. Windemere Best Man was third-placed-fourth after he made a break from the pocket in the opening turn and caused interference to Solid Silver. Dam Lucky (Ambrose Gillis) rounded out the top five finishers.
