Driver Ryan Holliday and Willyorwonthe overcame their post assignment as the six-year-old Angus Hall gelding strolled to a 1:57.1 victory in the $11,500 Preferred 2 Handicap Trot on Tuesday, June 4 at Georgian Downs.

Holliday placed Willyorwonthe fourth as Miami traveled wide past a :28.2 quarter to clear command from Katch Kanna. Willyorwonthe soon angled from the pylons approaching a :58 half but slowly progressed towards the leader moving to the backside.

Willyorwonthe soon seized the lead past a 1:27.2 third quarter and turned for home under pursuit from Katch Kanna vacating the pocket. Azucar, from second over, gave chase in third as Willyorwonthe recorded a length-and-a-quarter victory over Katch Kanna.

Owned and trained by William Megens, Willyorwonthe won his eighth race from 17 starts this season and his 30th from 128 overall, earning $284,975. He paid $6.20 to win.

A pair of prelims for the Sharpes Trotting Series highlighted the early card Tuesday with Peace Rose opening the program with a 13-length blowout in 1:59.3. The even-money favourite set splits of :29.1, :59.3 and 1:28.4 on an expanding lead while chased by Pyrrha finishing second over pocket-sitter Msblackdiamondduke. John Bax trains the three-year-old Cantab Hall filly for owners Bax Stable, Glengate Farms and Don Allensen. Matthew Bax drove the $4.10 winner.

Freshette Hanover also wired her competition but hit the wire with odds-on favourite Confession Session for a dead-heat victory. Co-owned by trainer Susie Kerwood with Rene Dion and David Nicol, the Andover Hall filly set fractions of :29.2, 1:01.1 and 1:30.2 while Confession Session gave first-over pursuit moving to the final turn. Confession Session rallied towards the tempo-setter through the lane and managed to match strides with Freshette Hanover on the wire. John Bax conditions the Father Patrick filly for owners Bax Stable and Glengate Farms. Both fillies paid $2.10 to win.
